NZ's Best Solar Power Calculator - Money Savings & Carbon Avoided
We have big news. Being kinder to the environment and to your wallet just got easier.
The team at My Solar Quotes have been hard at work building our very own solar power calculator. We are thrilled to announce that the calculator will be going live on the 22nd of April 2022.
We built the solar calculator so that Kiwi’s could understand how a solar power system could work for them. Besides being the environmentally friendly decision, the switch to solar can also be advantageous financially. Still, it can be tough to know how much is really being saved with solar power systems.
With our solar calculator, Kiwi’s can see how much money they will actually save by switching to solar. The calculator is capable of answering other solar-power-related questions too; like, 'how much money can be saved by adding a solar battery' and 'what amount of carbon emission would be avoided?'
It’s been a long time coming, but we finally feel that we have the formula to give accurate estimates on how much people can expect to save with a solar power system.
Other solar calculators are available for New Zealander’s to use... however, many are either too conservative in their calculations, with too many fixed assumptions, or they are overly optimistic.
At My Solar Quotes, we know we developed a formula that accurately and reliably generates the value of solar power systems.
What Will The Solar Calculator Reveal?
- The amount of solar power a system can generate on your roof
- How much money can be saved from installing a solar power system
- Time taken to payback the initial cost of a solar power system
- Carbon emissions avoidance
And it doesn’t stop with set results. If the results don’t prove satisfactory, the calculator allows for modifications so that the desired outcome can be achieved. Simply adjust the sliders up and down to get the desired outcome.
The factors that can be changed on the results page are the ‘solar self-consumption rate’ and the system size.
How The Solar Calculator Works
The solar calculator generates its results by asking a series of questions including location, roof angle and orientation, solar power system size, electricity price, etc.
Behind the scenes, we use a range of data that determines the results. Our data sets include solar irradiance; efficiency and conversion data through the use of standard solar products, and more.
Solar + Batteries Calculation
We are the first New Zealand solar calculator to incorporate the potential savings earned from installing a solar battery. Unique specifications for the battery can be entered into the calculator. We also have a range of set battery specs people can choose from to make it easy; such as the Tesla PowerWall 2, the sonnenbatterie and BYD.
Carbon Emissions Avoidance
With the threat of global warming, it’s imperative to understand the amount of carbon emissions that need to be avoided. This is why, when it came to developing our solar calculator, ensuring its accuracy was a top priority. As New Zealand already generates power from mostly renewable sources (roughly 80%), solar power systems avoid fossil fuel consumption, which is approximately 20% of New Zealand's total power generation.
How To Get Started
The solar calculator is intended as an objective starting point for people thinking about going solar. It’s meant as a guide so Kiwi’s can learn how to make the most out of their solar systems; both environmentally and financially. After using the solar calculator, there’s also the option to get a quote for the specific solar power system specs used in the calculator to generate its results.
