Fantastic opportunity for a solar installer
By Kristy Hoare on in International Solar
A request for proposal was put out on the 11th of February 2013 for the opportunity to install solar power on Sir Richard Branson's Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands. The goal is to reduce or eliminate the need for fossil fuels on the island as well as providing savings in the long term.
The renewable energy implementation is apart of 10 islands that Branson's non-profit organisation The Carbon War Room is deploying. The organisation is committed to reduce 10 islands independence on fossil fuels by 2020.
The project on Necker island plans to install a 750 kW solar power system in a field, a 8 kW solar power system on the Great House, a small test battery bank, solar powered carports and energy service contracts. They are also asking for indicative bids for a wind turbine.
One or multiple contractors could be selected. It would be great to see a New Zealand solar power contractor not only winning this huge job, but also gaining international exposure and invaluable PR. Click here for more details.
