Any roof angle (except from the south) can be used for solar panel installations. North facing solar panels are preferable as they generate more power. East facing solar panels generate more power in the morning which is ideal for some households, while west facing panels generate more power in the afternoon.
It is possible to install solar panels on multiple roof directions, but for this estimate please choose the dominant roof direction.
If a roof slope is 0° then it's best to tilt solar panels to at least 10° or more. Why? Because solar panels facing the sun generate more power. At this angle the panels also self clean in the rain.
For solar panels facing north, the ideal roof slope is between 25° and 30° to obtain optimum solar power from the panels.
The average residential solar power system size in New Zealand is 4kW.
A 4 kW system consists of between 11 and 14 solar panels, dependent on the size of the panels.
Commercial: Commercial sized systems typically start at 10kW (for instance, a small convenience store) and up to 150kW for a large big-box store.
